Aperture526: 2018 Year in Review
Hello! As the end of the year approaches, I thought I would do a quick Year in Review! I will be talking Best of, lessons learned, and what I look forward to in 2019! To start, let’s talk my Top 5 Photos of 2018.
Top Five Photos:
In no particular order…
Slumber is the first in a series called The Tipsy Blossom. I really began learning how to properly edit my photos around the time this was taken and I am glad this skill has improved and improved. Slumber is also a part of my online shop featuring more beautiful flower. It can be found at : https://society6.com/thetipsyblossom
Moth On A Window. How’d you get all the way up to the fourteenth floor Little Buddy? Are you scared? No? No, to get up her you have to be brave. I want to be brave like you Little Buddy.
Trains Are Delayed. This is a still image from a sci-fi movie. It is not yet made, but I can tell it will be a hit. Like an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. It would be a story of parallel universes connected by a train station.
The Keeper. She’s a lady of the Night. Her eyes are hollow, but her face is bold, fierce even. She greets me as I pass into her world.
Bowling Balls. Each bowling ball is as unique as the people they bring together. And just like their human counterparts, they are thrown into unknown situations. Do they end up in the gutter? or do they get a strike?
That is my Top Five Photos. Comment below with your favorites from Aperture526. With every photo, is a story and I was able to tell the story behind a few photos in my blog series. Although each blog holds a special place in my heart, here are my top three..
Top Three Blogs:
A Thousand Words Volume 2: Good Friends Are Good For You. This follows my friend Aaron and I as we explore mental health and the positive effects positive people have on you. If you haven’t read this blog yet, you can find it here: https://www.aperture526.com/blog/atw2
A Thousand Words Volume 5: Sluts Are More Fun And Other Relationship Dudads. This has been a fan favorite. My best friend and I discuss that one time I called her a slut, what that day meant to our friendship, and she gives some good advice for dating at every stage in a relationship. To check out this gem, follow this link: https://www.aperture526.com/blog/atw5
Music, Mood Muse Volume 1: The Neighborhood. Inspiration can come from anywhere, and in the summer of 2016, The Neighbourhood inspired an entire collection of photos taken in #000000 & #FFFFFF (Black and White). If you want to know more about how music affects my mood, and how that music and it’s artist become muses for my art.
With those memories in the past, I was also able to make more this year, and with new memories come future blogs. Let’s take a look at my most eligible future blog post. AKA my Top Five Memories of 2018":
Top Five Memories:
I spent my first industry event representing my firm on the stage at Tabernacle. We spent three months planning and constructing a garment using unconventional materials (wall covering, laminate, pull chains) fitting the 1920s theme of “Swing” featuring the Seven “Wonders” of the world. What made this worth all of the hard work was the friendships that bloomed from the daily interactions. We also placed Second. So there’s that. 🏆

This was my boyfriend and I’s first time travelling together. We had a great time in Asheville, North Carolina where we visited the Biltmore, went to a tea house, and found a bunch of vintage pinball machines. If you want to see more photos from this vacation and others you can find it here: www.aperture.com/travel
Most kids in Georgia get their license as soon as they turn sixteen and have to wait a few years to buy a new car. Me, I waited until I was 24 and did both within a weeks time. It was a long journey, but here we are.
Not so much of a memory, but a a series of little memories led to me finally finishing my transition into having natural hair. It only took two years.
Arguably the biggest thing that happened to me this year, actually started in 2017 when I had my wisdom teeth removed. I had my left lingual nerve severed which resulted in the loss of feeling and taste on the left side. Three months after the initial surgery, I had to go back under the knife to have the nerve repaired. Its been almost a year since the initial and my tongue is still a bit numb, but things are looking up :)
With all of the struggles and growth, their were many lessons to learn…
Top Five Lessons Learned:
Just because your tongue is numb, doesn’t mean you have to hold it.
I have had to learn that holding your tongue is not good. That meant humbling myself and learning to ask questions at work. This helped me improve my ability to do my job.
I’ve learned that sometimes the best way to communicate is by yelling, and then having a normal healthy conversation. Sticking up for yourself is important.
Protect your positive vibes. AT ALL TIMES
If you are anything like me, then negative energy from others can really effect your mood. I have learned to take breaks away from things that don’t feed into my positive vibes, and I have done my best to send more positive vibes into the universe.
Goals are dreams that are still in progress.
Every dream is a series of small goals that lead to a bigger picture. This year I have reached A LOT of goals and I can see my dreams within reach.
Fuck it up then bitch!
This is a good thing. Lol. I’ve learned to take new bulls by the horns. And I have learned to slay the whole way through.
What you see through the lens and the actual picture can be two different things and that’s okay.
This meaning that I have had to readjust my extreme optimism to match my new life as a young adult. I have had to learn that despite my best planning and preparations, I can not be in control of everything and that refocusing is not giving up, but finding new methods to get the same picture.
So… with this year being over and all the self reflecting being done, the last thing I have to ask myself is what I look forward to in 2019.
Top Five Goals of 2019:
I need, NEED to stop eating out and start eating better.
Outside of my general health and vanity, my bank can not handle these weekly Chic Fil A runs.
Save, Save, Save
The recession is near. I just want to be prepared. I also have anxiety around money so there’s that.
Be more engaged in my community
I love puppies and I really want to start volunteering at a local shelter
I also want to join a local photography club
