The Ugly Side of Self Care
Self Care is how we take care of ourselves to sustain our wellbeing. When you practice self-care, you are taking steps to consciously put your health first. Although we may believe this to be selfish, self-care is essential to refueling our body, minds, and spirit. It is a set of activities used as a means to refresh and revitalize us rather than deplete us.
However, we we talk about self care we never talk about the sacrifice that comes along with it. Self care can be ugly. Truly practicing self care can look like leaving a job and going back to school. It can look like going to therapy and dealing with childhood trauma. It can be forcing yourself to cook and instead of sitting on the couch binging Bridgerton. Self care can be ending toxic relationships with family and friends. It can be realizing that your fear of being alone is keeping you from leaving an unfulfilling relationship. It can also look like sitting down and truly looking at your finances and making the decision to give up your luxuries for a better financial future.
Self Care is not pretty, but it is oh so worth it. So if you are ready to put yourself first, make the sacrifices, and live your best life, then I want you to read these affirmations aloud:
I trust that what makes me feel most alive is what I truly need in my life.
I have what it takes to achieve
I will bend, so I won’t break
I am allowed to say “no” to others and “yes” to myself
I no longer have time for anything that does not help me reach my goals.
With that, I bid you a happy year filled with self care and growth!
