Stress Relief: Sensory Style
Stress Relief: Sensory Style:
Every person is not the same, therefore, the ways in which we relieve our stress is not the same. Instead of the traditional manner of “Here Are Ways To Relieve Stress” blogs, I wanted to give you some sensory stress relief ideas. So here they are!
Sight:
Take a day and watch your favorite show or movie
If you have a Netflix or Hulu account, find a couch and get your binge on.
* If you have Spotify Premium, you can get Hulu with ads for free*
Take a hike
Studies have been proven that viewing nature is calming to the mind and body
Go to a comedy club
Laughing helps improve your mood and relaxes your muscles
Smell:
Light a candle
Filling your home with the smell of warm cookies will instantly calm you down
In the same realm, turn on that essential oil diffuser
If you read my blog on my summer goals, then you know getting a diffuser was a big goal for me. Fill it with lavender for some quaint relaxation. The sound is also pretty soothing
Weird flex, but hear me out: get a sample of your Significant Other’s (SO) perfume or cologne
Once again, studies have shown that the smell of your SO calms and relaxes you.
Touch:
Cuddle with your SO.
It will release oxytocin
Get a massage
If you keep stress in your muscles and body, then a massage is the perfect way to relieve that tension in your body
Learn your pressure points
For quick relief, learn your pressure points. Its a quick way to press your buttons in a good way
Taste:
Treat yourself to your favorite meal.
There is a reason comfort food has its name
Enjoy a piece of chocolate
Chocolate releases a chemical similar to opiates in the brain
If all else fails, grab a nice adult beverage
Enjoy yourself, but don’t blackout
Movement:
Dance like nobody's watching
Put on your favorite song and hit a small twerk. Dancing will take your mind off of what is stressing you
Take a hike
A good workout can relieve stress in your body by releasing feel good chemicals
Do some yoga
It relieves tension and you’ll get some deep breathing in
Sound:
Listen to the sound of water running
It has been proven to calm down your brain
Listen to something sad
Maybe you need something to kick start a good crying session. Crying is good for you
Listen to something angry or aggressive
In the same way you may need a good cry, allowing yourself to feel anger may relieve pent up frustration.
