Six Alternatives to the Gym

With Summer quickly approaching, some people are concerned with their summer bod. Let me first say, you’re gonna look great in a swimsuit or booty shorts or without a shirt (for our dudes) regardless. However, if you are concerned and want to tighten things up, but the gym isn’t really your thing, then let me tell you about some fun alternatives to get that blood flowing.

  1. Yoga: Yoga is a great indoor activity to keep you fit during the cold winter months. There are plenty of places to learn yoga. First, if you have a cell phone, then there are apps like Daily Yoga, Pocket Yoga, and Yoga Studio that you can download. If Youtube is more of your drift, then Yoga with Adrienne is for you! She has a great series for beginners called “Foundations of Yoga” which breaks down the benefits of poses and basic alignment. Lastly, if you already have a gym membership, check with your gym to see if they hold classes on Yoga. Most gyms do.

  2. Dance-. Whether you go out on the town, find a studio where they teach you some moves or play Just Dance in your living room dancing such a fun way to get that exercise in.

  3. Team Sports - Most cities have leagues for just about any sport. In fact, if you’re an Atlanta native, then you can join Atlanta Sports and Social Club which hosts lots of sports tournaments.

  4. Fitness Classes- these are great for those who want to socialize and get in some heavy exercise. The most popular classes right now are Zumba, barre, Pilates, CrossFit, boxing, and spinning.

  5. Exercise Videos- exercise videos were a favorite of broke college Briana. They are also great for people who want to pace themselves without the pressures of having people around them.

  6. Aerial Silks and Pole Dancing - I put these together because I just so happen to know a place where you can do both. At Pole Waxer University in Marietta, a drop-in class is $20 or two for $30, and if you love it, they offer memberships. If you’re wondering how I know this, this is where I get my weekly exercise.
