How to Create Your Own Self Care Saturday
Self Care is taking time out of your life to intentionally take care of your mental, physical, or emotional health. In the case of Self Care Saturday, I focus on the physical aspect through skin care, massages, and manicures and pedicures. If you are balling, then you can go and pay for a facial, full body exfoliation, massage, and manicure and pedicure. That could easily run you well over $300. However, for a little less than half of that price, you can DIY it up!
Now, although the idea of having someone else rub you up and paint your toes is arguably more appealing. Here is my WHY behind the DIY. Physically taken care of yourself can help train your brain to understand that you deserve to be pampered and normalizes it. Not to mention it can kick start your daily skin care routine. So, can you get all of this started?
First thing first, it is time to create your spa day sessions and a budget. For me, I wanted to do a full facial, a pedicure, and a full body exfoliation.
A typical pedicure includes:
Foot soaking
Foot scrubbing
Nail clipping and shaping
A foot and calf massage
Moisturizer
Nail polishing
Here is what I used for my pedicure:
Earth Therapeutics Deluxe Pedicure Kit
Diamond Cosmetics Gel Toe Separators
Sally Hansen Double Duty Base & Top Coat
Sally Hansen Nip 'em on the Go Take-along Cuticle Nipper
Earth Therapeutics Pedi-Glass Stone-Green
Diamond Cosmetics Large Four Way Buffer
Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear - With the Beet
A typical facial is done in six parts. Those being:
Cleansing
Exfoliation
Extractions
Massage
Mask
Moisturizer
Here is what I used for my Facial:
Charcoal & Black Sugar Facial Polishing Mask*
Pomegranate Facial Revitalizing Peel-Off Mask*
Green Tea & Orange Blossom Peel-Off Mask*
Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips
Burt’s Bees Overnight Intensive Lip Treatment
Burt’s Bees Lip Treatment Lip Scrub
Earth Therapeutics Hydrogel Under-Eye Recovery Patch
Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

Whew! That was A Lot. Next was a pedicure.
As for exfoliating my body, I used Tree Hut Moroccan Rose Shea Sugar Scrub and a Coffee Scrub Soap Bar I picked up from the local farmers market.
The total cost of all of these items are about $105. This is well under our $300 you would spend having someone else doing it for you. Now, if you hate spending money like me and you also collect gift cards then you can get $105 down pretty fast. In fact, I got it down to just $18. You can see my math here:
Now, after all of your budgeting is done. It’s time to set a date to get this done. I recommend setting aside 4-6 hours on a Saturday. This is because it will take about 15-20 minutes for each treatment during the facials, 1-2 hours for the pedicure, and an hour for a full body exfoliation. Some last minute items to pick up should include towels, maybe some essential oils for your foot soak and shower, and SNACKS. Preferably healthy guilty pleasure snacks. And with that you are ready to go!
