5 Tips to Prepare for A Virtual Interview

With companies finally looking to hire out again, but not looking to put current employees in harms way, virtual interviews are becoming normalized. As someone who has had a few over the last two months, here are the five tips I have for anyone looking forward to a digital interview.

Get the proper equipment

a few must for a virtual interview include:

- a working laptop or desktop.

- a camera

- a headset

Also check your internet speed to ensure a smooth connection!

Clean your background

Make sure there is not a lot of clutter in the background. This will be a distraction for your future employer.

Pull up your resume/portfolio on a second screen

In an in person interview you would have copies to show and/or handout to your interviewers. Keep a virtual copy up so you can do the same digitally.

Dress like it’s a real interview

I am talking from head to toe. This is more than a nice blouse and a blazer. Fully dress for the occasion. Hair, makeup, and pants should be displayed. Also make sure your lighting is good.

Make “eye contact” with the camera

This is really awkward and takes a bit of practice and time to get use to, but try your best.

And that is it y’all! If you have any questions about virtual interviews, feel free to reach out and comment below! If you like what you read, sign up for my newsletter so you are first to know when new career blogs are posted!

Until next time :)
