My Nifty 50

My Nifty 50

Hello! And welcome to my first photography blog! Now, these wont come often, but I did want to invite you along my journey of growing my craft in photography. I bought my first camera, a Nikon D5100 in 2013. Originally, my camera was used for extreme recreational use. Like y’all, I looked like someone my college hired to take candids for their website. After joining a Facebook group on photography, I realized that photography was more than cheesy candids, it could be art.

Jump to today after a black and white phase and an actual college level photography class, I finally learned the ins and outs of my camera. BUUTTTT, I was still using my kit lens. #gross, Well, I pulled the trigger and finally bought my Nifty 50 lens. A Nifty 50 is a 50mm prime lens. It’s a lightweight, small lens. This means I can carry it in my purse or my work book bag.

This lens has already made me a photographer! Since it is a prime lens AKA fixed, I have been forced to move around to capture the perfect frame. Another reason I love this camera is because of its depth of field. If you’ve looked at my IG (@thebloomingbabe) then you know my favorite iPhone feature is Portrait Mode. If you think Portrait Mode is good, then let me tell you about the Nifty 50. Like I said, it has a shallow depth of field which gives you perfect portraits and bomb bokehs. The last reason I love this lens is because its cheap. For literally the cost of not eating fast food or drinking Starbucks for two weeks ($132), you too can afford this lens.

And that’s it! That’s my Nifty 50 story. It is just beginning, and I can't wait to see how much better I get using this lens.

Thanks for reading along, and check back in soon for some updates!
