Why People are Choosing Not to Drink

With indulgence (and sometimes overindulgence) in alcohol being so imbedded in American culture, the idea of sobriety gets a bad wrap. Many assume sobriety comes after a really bad decision after heavy drinking, and that may be the case, but not always! Let’s rethink the why behind sobriety.

Here are some reasons why individuals may choose not to drink:

  • You have a medical condition that limits your alcohol intake

  • You Are pregnant

  • You want to loose weight

  • You're over hangovers

  • You're a child of an addicted parent

  • Addiction runs in the family

  • You want to be more present in life

  • Better skin

  • You want to break unhealthy patterns

  • You want to save money

  • You want to adopt more healthy coping mechanism

  • You want to live a more mindful life

  • See what my IG followers said were there reasons for sobriety here.

For those wondering, my sobriety comes after fighting the H Pylori bug for a few months. You can read a little more about that here. Well, one of the lasting effects was an intolerance for alcohol. When I try to drink, my body immediately heats up from head to toe, my stomach begins to burn, and I get nauseous. The next day I am in severe digestive distress, sometime to the point of being bedridden.

Sucks right?

Well, what truly sucks is having to explain this to servers at weddings, to coworkers during Beer Fridays, to family at celebrations, and at literally any social event. Normalizing sobriety and mindful drinking is a slow movement gaining lots of traction, and I support it fully. I hope you will to! So let’s grab our favorite glasses, and stay tuned as I bring you custom mocktails each week using non alcoholic spirits and mixers.

Thanks yall! See you soon :)
